this totally backs up my thoughts re: bandwagoner backlash
it’s clear from this segment that rachel maddow knows barely anything about soccer. it’s also clear that she loved this moment just as much as someone who’s followed the uswnt for years! SO WHO CARES WHETHER EVERYONE KNOWS ALL OF THE INTRICACIES OF THE GAME- everyone can recognize an amazing victory when they see it. and as i said a few days ago: we are ALL bandwagoners at some point! that’s what happens when you live in a country where soccer is the 5th sport, ok. very few people are RAISED on a team, and if you are it doesn’t make your fandom more pure than anyone else’s.
so can we all quit acting like new fans are encroaching on our territory? ‘caring about a team’ isn’t a finite resource. no one is taking anything away from you.
