see but the colloquialism actually comes from the British meaning which refers to the dividing line between different natural water collection basins (the Continental Divide is a big example of this)

whereas in America we use “watershed” to mean the natural water collection/runoff basins themselves

Ah, okay. That sounds similar to the reason why I hardly ever mention my mom: I don’t seem to be able to describe her without people getting the impression that she’s a monster.
i have the same problem, my mother is kinda a good mom while at the same time being a hateful bigot. how you represent that textually? how do you discuss a person whose foundational principles need to be altered while not hatefully criticizing that person? also a lot of the time she’s a totally shitty mom, how do i address that facet of her personality without trashing her as a whole? whatever: my mom is a human and that’s that. she fucks up as much as she succeeds. she’s trying and i love her for that.

oh no they’re actually not assholes at all! they’re super conservative and christian but i’ve made my peace with that facet of our relationship. in fact, they’re letting me live in their home for SUPER LOW rent until i find a life-sustaining job. i complain about my parents alllllll the time but i want to be clear: overall they’re nice people who love their kids and vote for republicans.
i guess it’s my fault for mis-representing their fundamental okay-ness
